Bull Swamp Baptist Church Historic School Preservation Project

Midlands Give is helping with fundraising for our Old School Community Center Project! Your giving won’t be matched after May 3, but will still benefit our project: https://www.midlandsgives.org/bullswampbaptistchurch

Bull Swamp Colored School

On January 23,1959, Orangeburg School District 5 deeded the Old Schoolhouse to the Bull Swamp Baptist Church to be used as a Community Center. Trustees Dave Dantzler, Henry D. Fersner, Jr., and Frank Pimble signed the deed, transferring ownership of the schoolhouse to the Church. Gabriel Pimble, the Church Clerk, witnessed the signing.

In September of 2020, the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, entered into a 50/50 Matching Grant partnership with the Church to complete the planning phase of our Community Center Project. The $62,000 award requires the Church to contribute $31,000 on or before November 30, 2021. However, we expect to begin Phase Two – the stabilization and renovations process – in 2022. Therefore, our fundraising efforts will continue until the completion of the project.

At this time, we solicit the spiritual and financial support of our members, friends, and especially the former attendees of the Bull Swamp School and their families, in our quest to restore a 62-year-old commitment. The Community Center will provide opportunities for multiple activities and services to enrich the lives of residents of surrounding communities.

Thank you in advance for your continued financial support. All contributions are tax deductible.
